ABOUT THE DESIGN: Considered to be the mother church in Africa, the Coptic church's cross has roots that date back to the hieroglyphics and the Ancient Egyptians. Its earliest form derived from the ankh, meaning "life."

Variations of the Coptic cross can be seen throughout history and date as far back as 42 AD (some sources date it further!). Different forms of the cross can be found within Egyptian, Ethiopian and Eritrean churches. 

The most modern and most typical form of the Coptic cross is made up of two bold lines of equal length that intersect at the middle at 90 degree angles. Each line terminates in three points, representing the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Altogether, the cross has 12 points symbolizing the Apostles.

With its intricate inner detail, it is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful symbols of the Christian faith today.
